I decided from a very young age that I wanted to create intelligent apps that would make our life easier. I remember I was so excited when I got my first computer (in 1996). At the time computer were so slow and the internet was such a new thing. I was not so interested in computer games because I could not see them do something useful for me but I was intrigued how the images are diplayed on the screen, how the game changes the effects based on what you do and so on. When I left high school, I was excited to go study Computer Science and engineering at Imperial College but I was not satisfied with what I had learnt – I had created an app to help researchers find out the causes of diseases faster – but I was not happy with that… that’s why I decided to do a PhD.
So, yes, I really enjoy what I do now as I have the opportunity to work with a great team of researchers and we all work together to solve scientific and engineering challenges every day.
