Question: What is the biological basis of consciousness?

Gosh, I don’t know and I don’t think any one does really. Consciousness is hard to define, and not all the scientists agree what it is. What do you think it is? Do animals have consciousness, or just humans? Can we build a conscious brain using neural network technology? Google are certainly trying. If we managed to work out the biological basis of consciousness we could preserve people and their personalities after they were dead. Which is crazy to think about.
